Las Estrellitas – Preschool Learning Readiness Preparation
According to first grade teachers at the colonia Derechos Humanos public elementary school, most first graders are behind by about seven months on their very first day of school.
To prepare children to enter school ready to learn at the first grade level from day one, Casa Bugambilia sponsors “Las Estrellitas” – The Little Stars.

Established in 2008, Las Estrellitas creates a community of learning among the children, their families and the Casa Bugambilia community. Local teachers, with the help of volunteer experts in elementary education, establish a set of objectives and standards a child entering first grade should meet. Under the guidance of a qualified teacher, children are taught and tested on basic skills, in the areas of reading, writing and math, Parents are encouraged to become active participants in the lessons. To celebrate their hard work and effort, Casa Bugambilia hosts a dinner for the students and their parents at the conclusion of the one year preschool program.
Learning ready classes for the first group of Las Estrellitas concluded in August 2009. Classes with each group of Las Estrellitas will be continued as they progress through school.
